Join Youngzine and Sign up your class(es) for free today!

Many educators have remarked that Youngzine is a perfect complement to academic material, and can be a great resource for teachers and their classes. Learning through current events not only makes students more aware of what's going on in the world, but also helps absorb concepts better. Here's what teachers and parents are saying about Youngzine.

Moreover, Youngzine now provides a safe "blog" environment for classrooms - a constructive, creative and controlled way for teachers to create classroom assignments and foster discussions on current events!

Youngzine provides special features just for you, if you sign up as a Teacher:

  • Each of your classes gets a unique "Classroom Code" that identifies the students in that class. For each class, you get a Blog where you can post assignments and have students respond. You can include specific articles and quizzes to include in each assignment.
  • For each of your classes, you get to see a full report of each student's activities just by going to your classroom tab: their comments, assignment responses, points and quiz results.

These are some creative ways by which some teachers are already using Youngzine.

  • Teachers allow their children to make comments on articles (public comments), take quizzes, rate articles, participate in contests -- features that are available to all.
  • Teachers create custom assignments and have students respond and discuss, right on Youngzine! This is a great way to gauge their children's understanding and foster a discussion/debate between class students.
  • Some teachers ask for subjective opinions or ask to summarize an article, as a way to encourage children to think and write. As an example: "What do you think of Oxford English Dictionary's decision to add words like OMG and LOL?"

Read more about our unique Classroom Blog feature!

If you are a Homeschool teacher, and if you and your students share a computer, this requires each of you to log in/out separately. If that is inconvenient, you can still use Youngzine in your curriculum using a single account.

It only takes 2 minutes to get started:

If you have any questions or comments, let us know - we'd love to make this work for your class.

I am also homeschooled! No bullies, you can take breaks, your mom makes your food, if you're sick, school is done on the couch, and TONS OF FIELD TRIPS!!! Oh, plus you can join tons of homeschooling groups, which go to musuems, libraries, parks, and of course, you're still learning. In fact, homeschoolers oftenly become more succesful than kids that go to public school!

Hi jpott: We see you putting a lot of comments in the teachers forum, some of which we did not approve as they dont belong here. There is a section called UChat under UWrite, where children can discuss any thoughts that come to their mind. Please check that out. This section is for teachers.

Thanks!

Editor   22 weeks ago

Hi Greta - The classroom feature is for teachers to register their classroom and share assignments based on Youngzine articles. If you are part of a class at school, you can encourage your teacher to create an account.

greta   20 weeks ago

Youngzine's discussion corner for teachers

"January Gold Star goes to Deepa Gopal...Youngzine, which also publishes articles contributed by kids, can be used as a resource to supplement classroom instruction in language arts, social studies or science. It can also be used as a Current Event homeroom morning warm-up, or as an end-of-the-day culminating activity."
-- The Teacher's Desk  (one of Washington Post 2010 Best Education Blogs)

"I can always be assured that my students are safe and learning about current events the way they learn best;through online content filled with interactivity and multi-media. My students like "Youngzine" day because they can ... find the current events that appeal to them."
-- Talking Tech with Robin

"I have searched for months and months to find something which would be useful for our family, and Youngzine provides exactly what I want!!! At long last, our eldest is able to read current affairs -- in a safe environment. I'm not having to panic about what articles might be included because it is meeting the level of it's target audience -- unlike paper newspapers, or television news, etc."
