Olympic-sized Bites: Men's 100m Race

Jul 17, 2012 By Arjun

This is a very topical "bites" series - the London Olympics, brought to you by one of our Young Editors. Tune in here for the latest every week..

Men's 100m Race!

Nothing could embody the spirit of the Olympics more than the men’s 100 m dash. The winner not only ascends the podium and shoots to worldwide fame, but is also conferred upon the title of “Fastest man in the world. “

Nothing could be more prestigious.

The 100 m is impossible to predict this year, and many will be watching the heats closely, trying to pick a winner among all the seemingly dead even competitors.

Many would expect the lead man in the game, Usain Bolt, to shatter his previous records and hold his arms aloft in iconic celebration as he bursts past the finish line. However, Yohan Blake, a prolific sprinter who hails from the same country, will look to extend his good form from the Jamaican Championships. In both the 100 and 200 meter races, Blake defeated Bolt by a good margin, making him a strong contender for the gold.

Others are also in the mix. Tyson Gay, Bolt’s No.1 competitor for the majority of his career, is still seeking Olympic sprinting glory after falling short in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. Young Adam Gemili, as well as Asafa Powell, are looking to challenge the top and come up with something unexpected.

It’s wide open, this one. Many will be telling themselves its there for the winning.

But us mortals can only watch as these “gods” reach speeds only known to race cars and flying cheetas ( Hyperbole intended. )

Prediction: Gold - Yohan Blake, Silver - Usain Bolt, Bronze - Tyson Gay

Oh, Arjun, I LOVE this article! My favorite sport in the Oylmpics is definitly track. Usain Bolt isn't predicted to be gold? That just strikes me as a little odd, since he IS the fastet human on earth...
