My Amazon Adventure

On an extremely hot August day, I was on vacation in Brazil. We were camping near the humid Amazon rainforest.

At first, everything went as planned. We set up an indigo tent and moved supplies inside. As the evening sky settled in, my mom asked me to collect firewood so we could make a campfire. I had a feeling in my stomach that an amazing adventure was about to take place.

I needed some rest, so I sat on a tree stump. Then, it wasn’t a tree stump at all – it was a furry, little baby chimpanzee! I saw that the chimpanzee was in an odd position. It seemed as if it had a broken arm.

So, I wrapped a banana leaf around its arm like a cast. Then, it scurried to another primate which I assumed was its mother. A couple of minutes later, I tripped over a brown, striped snake, which at first I thought was a stick. It slithered in my direction. I ran with all my might. black and orange, a striped figure sprang out of nowhere. I dashed to a river and jumped onto a log. I had lost the tiger.

After three minutes, I heard the sound of rushing water get closer and closer. To my surprise, the log beneath my feet squirmed. I was standing on a crocodile! It started to swim quicker and quicker.

Suddenly, the crocodile jolted and I toppled into the water. The next thing I saw was a huge waterfall! Quick as a flash, I fell down the waterfall. “Kerplunk!” Instead of falling into a pool of bubbling water, I had landed in a secret cave behind the waterfall! Then, I saw the faint gleam of sunlight on the other side of the cave. There was a humongous hole!

Then, I remembered to dry myself because I was soaking wet. I jumped through the hole without looking at what I was about to land on. Luckily, when I jumped through the hole I landed on a soft pile of leaves.

I found out that I was back at my tent. Nobody seemed to notice me. I picked up some firewood and carried it to my mom. I asked her how long I was gone. She told me I was gone for only about 15 minutes. It had seemed like four hours!

I realized it was an amazing daydream adventure, one with so many animal encounters.
