Meet Our 2012 Young Editors!

Jul 19, 2012 By Deepa Gopal

We hope you have been following articles on Youngzine over summer, written by our Young Editors. This week, we have a short issue with half the number of articles and UWrites. Our editorial team happened to be all traveling at the same time, with limited internet access. We will be back in full swing from next week.

Meanwhile, as we are midway through our summer program, we would like to introduce our fantastic and truly international team of Young Editors who have joined us this year. We are thrilled with the quality of articles they have been sending us -- which could very well be mistaken for pieces written by adults! :)

Meet Rachel from New Mexico, USA

My name is Rachel Kenney, I am 14, and in the fall I will be in 9th grade. I live in Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA, where it is hot and dry in the summer. I live with my mom, dad, and little sisters Hannah and Emma. I am a major history nerd, especially when it comes to American history. I also love to read, write fictional stories and poetry, and babysit. I am involved in a local 4-H club where I am the Vice President. In the future I hope to be a social worker and have a family.

Meet Shreya from Belgium

My name is Shreya. Although I'm an Indian, I live in Belgium. I am twelve years old (turning thirteen) and I will be in 8th grade after the summer vacation. My interests include Science (specifically physics): Energy, Force, Machines, Physicists etc. History is interesting to me too and I would love to write articles about it. My hobby is painting and I learn about artists and their paintings. I also like to read.

Meet Arjun from California, USA

I live in Bay Area, California and will be entering 8th grade in the Fall. I have been an avid Youngzine member for a long time and have written numerous articles as Young Editor, as well as several UWrites. I am very passionate about music and have been learning a form of South Indian Classical Music. I also sing modern pop, and am part of a show choir in my school. I enjoy playing competitive tennis and am an ardent fan of Roger Federer. My other interests are reading books, science, following politics and playing video games.

Meet Akila from New Jersey, USA

My name is Akila and I live in the Garden State of New Jersey. I am 11 years old and have just finished the 5th grade. I love to read and play the piano and violin. I also play basketball. I am a First Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. Though I do not watch much TV, I get my share of fun and news from Youngzine. I love making Friends and interacting with them. I hope you will enjoy reading my articles on Youngzine.

Meet Amelia from Australia

My name is Amelia and I live on the east coast of Australia. I'm home schooled, but if I was in school, I'd be in grade 4. I am a vegan and love all animals (especially cats!). I like to write—in fact my perfect day would be writing all day! I also draw and read a lot. I write a blog about animals, at creaturesncritters.blogspot.com. I also love going to the beach, which is very close by. I really love playing with my two cats, who are adorable!

Meet Sammy from Texas, USA

I am 14 years old, born in New Delhi, India, lived in Singapore for 13 years and moved to Texas this year. I just finished middle school, and will begin my first year at high school this August. I love reading, writing, swaveboarding, playing volleyball, basketball, track, swimming, cricket and soccer, doing quilling (an art of making 2D & 3D figures with strips of paper), singing, debating and videography.

Meet Meera from California, USA

Hi! My name is Meera, and I am a rising sophomore in sunny California. I love being a Young Editor for Youngzine; writing is actually one of my several passions. I love anything and everything to do with art, be it drawing, painting, sculpting, or web design. I am a proud member of both my school's Speech and Debate Club and Science Club. I also am an avid piano player, and have been since the tender age of five. In my spare time, one might find me swimming, reading, biking, listening to music, or watching a movie.

Meet Trisha from India

They say the best things come in small packages. I'd like to believe that's true. My name is Trisha. I'm 5 feet tall, 15 and currently live in Bombay, India. Writing is, and always has been, one of my greatest passions—it’s why I signed up to be a Young Editor. Aside from this, I love reading, playing tennis, horse riding and eating. If I could, I’d just eat all day long! I adore animals and share a room with possibly the most adorable Shih-Tzu puppy ever, my dog Mojito. I’ve had the opportunity to live in three different, amazing places- Bombay, Bangalore (also a city in India), and the Philippines, and I’m extremely grateful to have been able to do so. This has definitely sparked off a love of globe-trotting in me. I want to travel the world and share all my experiences with people through writing.
